Term 1, 2023
Principal's Message
I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful summer break. Hopefully the students are relaxed and ready to start an exciting new school year. It has been a really positive start to the year and the staff welcome and value your positive energy and support in the education of your children.
In 2023, we welcome Miss Jessica Howden, Mrs Penny Gilder and Mrs Ashleigh Kitchin to the staff at Sacred Heart. We also welcome back Mrs Jaclyn Obbard. All staff have been welcome additions into the school and we look forward to working with them this year.
This year it was my pleasure to welcome; Afrin, Tye-Reece, Olivia, Lachlan, Hugh and Solomon, our new Kindergarten students. Our Year 3 and Year 6 new students, Campbell and Siennah and their families to Sacred Heart.
There was an air of excitement and anticipation in the hope of what a new year brings. If the last two years taught us anything, it was to expect the unexpected. We hope that throughout 2023 we are able to come together more frequently as a school community.
Welcome back to all our old friends. It was great to see all their smiling faces and watch their eagerness as they start another busy year. Hopefully everyone had a very enjoyable break and were able to recoup their energy.
During the first week, I explained to the children that I wanted to see three things from them this year.
- Be Respectful
- Try Your Best = Work Hard
- A Positive Attitude
If we can ingrain these three qualities into our students, they will thrive as members of our school community. Our past experience tells us that young people receive the most from their education when parents, families and teachers work as a team. To our parents, your enthusiasm, support and involvement are paramount to the success of our school along with the skills and dedication of our staff. Together, we can support one another to provide a safe, connected learning environment and celebrate our achievements along the way.
Let's make 2023 a great year!
God Bless
Kylie Scott

Year 3-4 2023
We have had a fantastic start to the school year. New classroom, books, teacher and school mates. Everything is FANTASTIC in 3 /4.
We are reading about a clever fox that challenges the intelligence of the three farmers. Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr Fox is the inspiration for our writing and literacy activities this term.
We are also learning about God’s Creation and that we are all created in the image and likeness of God.
In Science we are discovering how plants grow. This week we have investigated the parts of a seed, and next week we will be looking at the lifecycle of a plant.
Year 3-4

Year 5-6
Firstly, I would like to welcome all our families and students back for 2023. We also welcome a new Year 6 student Siennah who has joined us from our sister school, St Michael’s Dunedoo.
This week 5/6 have begun their year with a positive and mature attitude toward their school work. In English we have started a new novel ‘Misery Guts’ and have been continuing to write Imaginative texts expanding their previous knowledge from last year.
In Maths we have been beginning our lesson with a quick mental recall activity and practising Times Tables for our warm up and then either a Maths task or game. Our school has been lucky enough to be one of the schools chosen in our Diocese, as the early adopters for the new Stage 2 and 3 Maths Syllabus that will be implemented in all schools in 2024. As part of the program the first two weeks are a variety of tasks and games to encourage the children to think mathematically.
We would like to extend an invitation to any parents or family members that would like to give up a small amount of their time to come into school and help around the classroom. Eg listen to children read, art, etc. Please feel free to contact the office if you are available to help in any way.
A reminder that the Swimming Carnival will be held this Friday. The students will come to school as normal and then will be bussed down to the pool for a 10.30am start. Parents and buses will collect students from the pool on the completion of the carnival. We wish all the students a fun-filled day.
Finally a reminder that our school assembly will be each Friday at 8.50am - 9.10am. Everyone is welcome to attend and we would love to see you all there.

Road Safety
Heading back to school
As teachers and students head back to school for Term 4, the quarterly Bus Flashing Lights campaign reminds motorists to slow down to 40km/h when bus lights flash.
Lights flash on the front and back of buses to inform motorists that buses are picking up and setting down children. Drivers must slow down to 40km/h when bus lights flash. Slow down and look out for children crossing the road near bus stops, in school zones or along bus routes.
Parents play a very important role in getting their child to and from the bus stop safely. Remember:
Always meet your child AT school or the bus stop. NEVER wait on the opposite side of the road and call them across.
Always supervise your child and hold their hand when walking to and from the bus stop or interchange and when crossing the road until they are at least 10
Wait until the bus has gone then use a safe place to cross the road
Encourage your child to take a seat quickly when they get on the bus and to buckle up if the bus has seatbelts.
If you have a child starting or changing schools next year, now is a good time to plan your child’s trip. Our Trip Planner app is available and you can find tips on keeping your kids safe while travelling to and from school on Safety Town.

Safer Internet Day 2023
Safer Internet Day is a global event that brings together communities, families, schools and organisations from more than 200 countries to help create safer online spaces.
This worldwide initiative is celebrating 20 years in 2023, making it a great time to reflect as well as look forward.
Technology has evolved dramatically in the past two decades and the benefits have been huge. These developments have also exposed us to many risks with real-world impacts, making online safety awareness even more important.
That's why we are calling on Australians to Connect. Reflect. Protect.
Connect safely and with purpose – by keeping apps and devices secure and using social media in positive ways.
Reflect before we act – by taking a moment to consider how what we do and say online may affect others.
Protect ourselves and others by taking action – by telling family, friends or colleagues about eSafety and how we can help.
By doing these simple things, we can work towards making every day a Safer Internet Day.
