Term 1, 2023 Weeks 5-6
Principal's Message
Welcome to Week 5 & 6!!
Sacred Heart continues to be a hive of activity with a number of events taking place both in and out of the classroom in the coming weeks. I was very proud to see so many students representing our school with such enthusiasm at the Northern Region Swimming Carnival in Mudgee last week. Our school spirit was definitely evident as students cheered on their friends in every event.
This week we have had the pleasure to host the The Loreto Rural Partnership between Sacred Heart and Loreto Normanhurst.
Anika, Aimee, Darcie, Emily, Keenor, Lily, Zoe, Mrs Zammit and Mrs Skelly have been working in our classrooms with our students, with a focus in Religion, History, PE, Science and Maths. I am sure you have had your children coming home with wonderful stories of the time they are spending with the girls.
We finish off Week 5 with a Parent Teacher Information Evening and a BBQ.
God Bless
Kylie Scott
RE Happenings
Project Compassion boxes went home last week to each family. We are hoping to fill the large Project Compassion box at the front office by the end of Lent.
Please support Caritas Australia this Lenten season themed ?For all future generations?. You will be helping empower our world?s most vulnerable communities to grow stronger and share their strengths with their communities to lift themselves out of poverty.

K/1/2
Kindergarten students have been very busy learning lots about different animals in our English lessons and have loved using their fine motor skills to make spiders and their webs and draw and make spiders. They have been doing lots of hands-on activities when counting in maths and have been so clever to work out what numbers add together to make 10. Along with Year 1 & 2, Kindergarten enjoyed using our new balls to practise their catching, kicking and throwing even though it was super hot!

Year 5/6 News with Mrs Kitchin
This week in English we have been working on our creative writing using a picture stimulus as a prompt. A stimulus is when the students are given a picture or an illustration and asked to create a story based on what they see in the picture. The students have been writing some very impressive texts with great use of expensive (descriptive) words to describe their characters, settings, events and resolutions. Students have recorded a piece of their own writing on Seesaw to share their amazing progress with their parents.
In Religion we have started our Lenten journey. Lent is seen as a time of faith and renewal as well as the preparation for celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes on Easter Sunday and has been a traditional time for fasting or giving up something.
During Lent Caritas, Australia's main annual fundraising campaign called Project Compassion raises much-needed funds to help alleviate poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity in the most vulnerable and marginalised communities in the world. Project Compassion runs through from Ash Wednesday until Easter. Last week Project Compassion boxes were distributed to all students. If you wish to donate please return the boxes with any change that you have spare by the end of Term 1.
We were very lucky last week to have 8 girls from Loreto Normanhurst visit Sacred Heart. Emily, Anika, Keenor and Aimee, have been working very hard with our class in Science, Maths and Creative Arts. Libby has written a report explaining what one of the lessons they worked on with our students.

Our Day with the Loreto Girls
Tuesday 28 February 2023
Today Emily, Anika, Keenor and Aimee from Loreto joined us in our classroom for maths and religion. After lunch we were very lucky to have them teach our art lesson. We began the lesson by reading some of the book ‘ Horton Hears a Who’ with everyone having a turn of reading in front of the class. Then, we watched a video on anti-bullying. Next, we painted symmetrical butterflies by folding a piece of paper in half. We dropped a small amount of different blue and white paint down the fold and pushed the paint out to the ends of the paper away from the fold. Once opened you have a beautiful butterfly. Lastly we made origami shirts using blue paper. We used the blue and white theme in preparation for ‘Do it for Dolly Day’.
‘Do it For Dolly Day’ is a day dedicated to bringing the community together, spreading kindness and uniting in taking a stand against bullying. What a fun afternoon, thankyou Loreto. – Libby
