Principal's Message

As we journey through the season of Lent, we are reminded of the importance of reflection and repentance in our lives. This week, we continue to focus on the theme of forgiveness and the role it plays in our spiritual growth.

In our classrooms, students are exploring the idea of forgiveness through scripture readings and discussions. They are also learning practical ways to seek forgiveness from others and extend forgiveness to those who have wronged them.

We encourage parents to continue this conversation at home by reflecting on how forgiveness has impacted their own lives and sharing their experiences with their children.

Let us continue to pray for a spirit of forgiveness and reconciliation in our school community and beyond.

Blessings,

Kylie Scott

RE Happenings

Project Compassion boxes have started to arrive at school, thank you to our parents, friends and families who have supported this, the boxes went home to each family. We are hoping to fill the large Project Compassion box at the front office by the end of Lent.

Please support Caritas Australia this Lenten season themed For all future generations. You will be helping empower our world's most vulnerable communities to grow stronger and share their strengths with their communities to lift themselves out of poverty.

TERM 1 SWIMMING

Swimming events and news have certainly been hitting the headlines at Sacred Heart throughout Term 1.

The 10th of February marked the Sacred Heart Swimming Carnival for 2023. The students were out in full force, swimming in numerous events and cheering constantly for their sporting house.

The day kicked off with the across the pool events. Some swam with no assistance, others took a trusty noodle with them.

The little pool events saw teamwork at its best. The children trudged through the water whilst balancing cups of water, jumping through hoops and tagging their peers. Those who were not in many big pool events were treated to further activities in the little pool with Mrs Hallett and Mrs Gilder throughout the day.

The spirit of sportsmanship was well and truly present throughout the day. Regardless of whether a student was in the Emu sporting house, or the Kangaroos, the students were constantly cheering for each other and encouraging each other to finish.  The parent team comprising Fiona, Lisa, Anna and Jace, won by over a body length. There was not much in it between the parent and teacher/staff throughout the majority of the race, but with Jace swimming the final lap for the parent team, the teacher/staff team was left behind. Another highlight of this race was Isabella being up against her mother in the relay.

All students, whether a place getter or not, should be very proud of their conduct at the school swimming carnival. The Junior Boy Champion went to Rex Thomas. The Junior Girl Champion was won by Isabella Dunlop. A friendly battle between our 11yr old girls, resulted in a tie between Libby Morse and Bridget Hallett. The Senior Girl champion was deservingly won by Annabelle Bradley.

The winning house was the Emus, yet the Kangaroos point score was not far behind. Medals for our aged champions are at school. Mrs Kitchin would like us to wait until all of these students are at one of our assemblies, before they are presented. We apologise for the delay.

The Northern Region Swimming Carnival at Mudgee was the next swimming event for some of Sacred Heart’s students. Mrs James went as the Team Manager and reported that all of the students swam well, were respectful and displayed great sportsmanship. So thank you Campbell, Oscar, Isabella, Rex, Lola, Bridget and Annabelle for representing our school and yourselves, with such pride. Congratulations goes to Rex for winning the 8yrs 50m freestyle and for picking up a third in both 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly. The relay team consisted of Bridget, Lola, Annabelle and Rex. This event proved to be a nail biting event with Bridget, Lola, Annabelle and Rex giving 100% to deservingly place first.

Next, Bridget, Annabelle, Lola and Rex qualified to compete at the Diocesan Swimming Carnival on the 8th of March. Their consistent training under the guidance of Coolah Swimming Club is certainly paying off for them. The relay team swam approximately 14 seconds faster than they did at our own swimming carnival. This awesome team swam at great pace and only missed out by 223 hundreths of a second to achieve second place. Rex had success in his individual events. He came an impressive second in the 50m freestyle and fourth both in his breaststroke and butterfly events. Such success means that the Sacred Heart relay team will be competing at PSSA in Homebush on the 30th March. Rex will also swim in the 50m freestyle. We wish Bridget, Lola, Annabelle and Rex the very best of luck.

SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

The hot weather did not deter the students from running at the Sacred Heart annual Cross Country. Hughie Pettet led the K12 in the 1km event and Mrs Hallett ran at the back of the pack to make sure no one went missing on the course. Mrs Baker was the official marshall. She gave words of encouragement, and indicated when it was time to go.  Mr Scifleet sat on the course with water, ice-packs and a checklist of students to make sure each student made it past his checkpoint and to offer water to those in desperate need of a drink. Mrs Scott and Mrs Gilder were our trusty timekeepers, whilst Mrs Kitchin recorded the times and placegetters of the day. Mrs Pettet was fortunate that she had Mr Scifleet’s golf buggy to drive around in to offer refreshments, a cool spray of water, or if need be and a lift if someone wasn’t feeling well. Luckily, the effort and determination of everyone meant that no one was prepared to ‘pull the pin.’ What impressed Mrs Pettet the most during her travels were students encouraging each other as they ran and a couple of students staying with a younger one so that they were never left alone on the course.

In the upcoming days, students who have qualified to run at the Bathurst Diocesan Cross Country will be notified.  Dio Cross Country is in Term 2, Week 2 - Tuesday 2nd May. Even though we would like to send everyone who placed first, second or third, we really can’t send students who got first, second or third, yet walked a good majority of the way.

Finally many thanks to those who were able to come and cheer the students on.
