Term 2, 2023 Weeks 7-8
Principal's Message
Friday 16 June we will be celebrating a special Mass together as a community. This Mass is to celebrate the Feast Day of Sacred Heart.
Please join us for Mass at 12.15, 16 June, 2023.
I hope this newsletter finds you in good health and high spirits. As we approach the midpoint of Term 2, I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting discussion points at the Catholic Education of Bathurst Principal’s meeting, with you regarding the upcoming updates in the Curriculum Reform NSW 2023.
Curriculum reform is an essential aspect of ensuring our students receive a high-quality education that equips them with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in an ever-changing world. The new curriculum aims to provide a contemporary, relevant, and inclusive learning experience for our students, empowering them to excel academically and prepare for their future endeavors.
At Sacred Heart, we are fully committed to embracing these curriculum changes and implementing them effectively. Our dedicated teaching staff have been undergoing professional development programs and training to ensure a smooth transition and deliver the best possible learning experiences for your children.
NAPLAN
From 2023, new standards were introduced to NAPLAN reporting. This reporting replaces the previous numerical NAPLAN reporting bands and national minimum standards. Education. Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement.
The NAPLAN report shows a proficiency scale for each assessment area (numeracy, reading, writing, spelling and grammar and punctuation) with a student’s result shown as a black dot on the scale. The report continues to show each child’s achievement against the national average for their year (shown as a black triangle) and the range of achievement for the middle 60% of students in their year level (shown as a light shaded rectangle). NAPLAN is a valuable tool that can give useful insights into a student’s performance, but individual reports should be interpreted with care as they reflect the student’s performance on the day of testing.
God Bless,
Kylie Scott
RE Happenings
Sacred Heart Feast Day is a Christian celebration that honours the Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is observed on the Friday following the second Sunday after Pentecost. The feast day holds significant meaning for many Catholics and other Christian denominations that venerate the Sacred Heart.
The feast day is an opportunity for believers to reflect on the immense love of Jesus and to deepen their devotion to him. It is a time for prayer, contemplation, and acts of charity. Many churches and communities organise special Masses, devotions, processions, and other religious ceremonies to honor the Sacred Heart.
The Sacred Heart of Jesus represents the divine love, compassion, and mercy of Jesus Christ for humanity. It is a symbol of his unconditional love and his willingness to sacrifice himself for the salvation of mankind. The heart is depicted as pierced, crowned with thorns, and surrounded by flames, representing the wounds and suffering endured by Jesus during his crucifixion.

We write to you to inform you of changes made to stduent reports from Semester One, 2023.
World Support Staff Day
May 16 is World Support Staff Day. We are so blessed at Sacred Heart to have such wonderful people working in support staff roles. Our school could not function without teacher aides in classrooms, grounds, cleaning, finance and administrative staff. These amazing people ensure that students and families feel welcome and cared for every day. They are often the ones that make things happen and get things done, and without them, our teachers would not be able to do their jobs anywhere near as well. If you get the opportunity this week, I urge you to say thank you to one of our fabulous support staff for the great work they do every day.

3/4 with Mrs Baker
Mrs Baker's 3/4 class have been very busy learning about Persuasive texts. They have written letters to our Principal Mrs Scott, giving their opinion about Sacred Heart School. The students have formulated specific reasons for their opinions, and have given facts to support them. Well done 3/4.

K/1/2 with Mrs Pettet
Mrs Pettet has been making dioramas in Religion and Drama to retell the Ascension of Jesus into heaven. A diorama is a replica of a scene, typically a three-dimensional full-size or miniature model. Our students are very proud of their work. Well done!!

Friendship & Belonging

Learning how to make new friends and keep them involves a number of skills every young person needs to understand and develop. For some these skills will come very naturally, allowing them to easily move between different friendship groups, sharing their experiences and opening up to new people. For others, this can be much harder to navigate. Belonging to a group that is like-minded with similar interests is highly beneficial to a young person’s wellbeing. It gives them a sense of security helping them feel valued which in turn builds their confidence.
Positive friendships are an important part of the journey to adulthood. Adult carers can support their child or teenager by providing guidance in the many social and emotional skills required for a healthy relationship. This will help them to obtain, retain and maintain friendships. However, not all friendships are regarded as positive. Sometimes young people develop negative or toxic friendships. Therefore it is also important for them to learn how to identify, avoid or deal with such a friendship.
If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the school for further information or seek medical or professional help.
