Term 3, 2023 Weeks 1-2
Principal's Message
As we commence Term 3, we are thrilled to welcome you back to a term filled with exciting and meaningful celebrations, with a particular focus on NAIDOC.
NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee) is a time to honour and celebrate the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, as well as to recognise their significant contributions to our nation. This year's theme, "Our Elders," invites us to reflect on the importance of recognising the role Elders have played and continue to play in Indigenous communities and families.
What a wonderful day our students had at Northern Regions Athletics Carnival. Our Relay team, Siennah, Rex, Oscar and Annabelle are progressing to the Dio Athletics Carnival as well as Annabelle for shot put and Rex for the 800m.
Naplan
This week NAPLAN results were sent home to parents and caregivers. NAPLAN tests are designed to provide you, your child and their teachers with information about how your child’s literacy and numeracy skills and understanding compare to national standards.
For this year, proficiency standards provide clearer information about a student’s achievement and are descriptive, making them easier to understand.
God Bless,
Kylie Scott
Religion Happenings

At each stage of a child’s life, we acknowledge important moments: birth, first birthday, first steps and words. As we begin and grow in our journey of faith, we learn about Jesus and what it means to be his follower. Celebrating the sacraments gives us important experiences along the way that helps us grow in our faith.
This Term we will be celebrating students receiving Reconciliation and Confirmation.

Wellbeing
Sacred Heart SCHOOLTV- Mental Health
Mental health refers to an individual’s emotional, psychological and social wellbeing. It can have an impact on a child’s ability to function in daily life affecting how they think, feel and act.
Many factors contribute to child’s mental health such as biological factors, life experiences, as well as family history. It is important at every stage of life, from childhood, to adolescence, through to adulthood.
Research shows that children with good mental health increase their ability to learn, be creative and more productive. Children rely on parents, teachers or other caregivers to recognise their suffering and get them the help they need. Therefore, it is important for parents to learn and understand how mental illness can present itself in children.

Celebrating Naidoc
On Friday afternoon Sacred Heart students came together to celebrate NAIDOC week.
The students split into groups and made Johnny Cakes.

Year 5/6
This week, the students of Years 5 and 6 have begun creating their art pieces for the much-anticipated CEDB Christmas Storytelling Exhibition. The theme of the artworks revolves around Advent and the profound meaning of Christmas, encouraging our young artists to infuse their creativity with the essence of the season.
In addition to their artistic efforts, students were given the opportunity to explore their spiritual connection by selecting a verse from the Bible from the list provided by CEDB. It was heartening to witness how each student deeply resonated with their chosen passage, using it as a guiding light in their artistic process. During the last term's writing lessons, the students composed reflective passages inspired by their own creations, seamlessly blending their artistic expression with the written word.
As we eagerly look forward to the exhibition, we are excited to see the culmination of their efforts. Each year, the CEDB Christmas Storytelling Exhibition draws attention from all over, with around 2,000 children from 29 schools participating and showcasing their artistic talents. The judging process, scheduled for late August, will involve the judging of approximately 150 to 190 art pieces.
As the exhibition approaches, we wish you all the best of luck. May your artwork and reflective passages touch the hearts of many, spreading the joy and meaning of Christmas to all who behold them.
