Principal's Message

The Seeker whispered, ‘God speak to me.'

And a meadowlark sang, but the Seeker did not hear.

So the seeker yelled ‘God speak to me!’ And thunder rolled across the sky.

What the seeker did not listen. The seeker looked around and said ‘God let me see you.’  And a star shone brightly. But the Seeker did not notice. And the Seeker shouted ‘God show me a miracle.’ And a life was born. But the Seeker did not know. So the Seeker cried out in despair, ‘Touch me, God, and let me know that you are here!’ Whereupon God reached and touched the Seeker. But the Seeker brushed the butterfly away and walked on.

Don't miss out on a blessing because  it isn't packaged the way you expect.

At our recent Principal’s Meeting, Bathurst Diocese Principals were able to gather, reflect and participate with Brother Damien.

Br Damien is a retired teacher who lives in Brisbane. He is passionate about the power of story to unite us. In the sharing of story we celebrate our shared humanity with its innate dignity, engage deeply.

God Bless,

Kylie Scott

Religion Happenings

The past 2 weeks have seen us celebrate the Feast of Assumption and Mary MacKillop.

The Feast of the Assumption holds a special place in the hearts of believers worldwide as a celebration of the Virgin Mary's ascension into heavenly glory. On this sacred day, we are reminded of Mary's unwavering faith, her pivotal role in the divine plan, and her ultimate reward in joining her son, Jesus Christ, in eternal bliss. As we commemorate this joyous occasion, we also remember the remarkable life and legacy of Mary MacKillop, a true embodiment of faith and compassion. Just as Mary exemplified devotion and humility, Mary MacKillop's dedication to education and social justice continues to inspire us all. The intertwining of these two Marys, separated by centuries yet united in their devotion to God and humanity, serves as a testament to the enduring power of faith, love, and selflessness.

We look forward to celebrating Confirmation this weekend with Bishop Michael and Fr Pius and our students and families.

Uniform Expectations

Winter Sports Uniform Expectations:

As we embrace the warmer weather at times and engage in our winter sports activities, please take note of our uniform guidelines. For the duration of the winter sports season, students are expected to wear black tracksuits as part of the uniform. We kindly request that tights not be worn as an alternative during this time.

Additionally, students should continue to wear their designated sports shirt, which plays a pivotal role in promoting team spirit and unity. We believe that adhering to these uniform guidelines not only enhances the sense of camaraderie among our athletes, but also ensures a consistent and professional representation of our school during sporting events. Thank you for your cooperation in upholding our school's uniform standards.

Year 5 & 6

On Friday the 18th of August Sacred Hearts Year 5-6 students represented and marched for our school at the Coolah Veterans Day and Long Tan Day Service to remember all the young men and women of Australia involved in our defence forces.

It was a privilage for our students to be apart of this service.

Kindergarten with Mrs Hallett

Kindergarten continues to learn in all Key Learning Areas (KLAs).  This includes English, Maths, Religion, History, Health, Sport, Music, Science & Technology and Creative Arts.    On top of this learning students also participate in meditation, prayer, and practise daily gratitude and engage in our School wide Positive Behaviours for Learning (SPB4L) program.  They should be very proud of their work ethic and behaviour, I am so proud of them all for showing such great improvements in all areas.

In English, students have studied many books this term, one being Wombat Stew by Marcia Vaughan.  Students have used this book as a prompt and mentor for many learning activities including informative writing - writing a recipe for playground stew and then making playground stew, reading a recipe then making pikelets, they also made some fabulous wombats in their Visual Arts lesson.

Wombat Stew

In Mathematics we have been learning to:

  • Describe features and attributes of objects
  • Sort objects and explain our thinking
  • Understand that objects can have various attributes and can belong to more than one category
  • A simple core can be created in any context by selecting and sequencing 2 or 3 key elements
  • The core can be repeated over and over again to create a growing pattern

Visual Arts

Students enjoyed making goats, pigs and carrots using their hand and footprints after studying the book A Year on our Farm by Penny Matthews.

In our Science lessons we have investigated -

How can we measure sound?

Some sounds are so loud they hurt our ears. Some sounds are so soft we can hardly hear them. Students Investigated how we can measure sound.  Students used plastic bottles filled with oats, rice, macaroni and measured the sounds from loudest to softest.

Why do things feel hot or cold?

We investigated how we can make something warmer.  We found we could use the sun to make something warmer. We predicted what  would happen to a chocolate frog if you left it in the hot Sun and we got to eat them - Yum!

We still have lots of fun and learning for the rest of the term, students continue to practise for the play and I can’t wait to see them up on stage!

Free home internet for unconnected students

Mark Coulton

I'm pleased to announce the School Student Broadband Initiative (SSBI) is now available, offering free home internet for up to one year for eligible unconnected families with school aged students.

Through this initiative the Australian Government aims to bridge the digital divide and expand educational opportunities for students who do not have home internet access.

To qualify, participants must:

Have a child living at home that is enrolled in an Australian school in 2023.
Not have an active NBN network internet service at home. Having a mobile internet service does not   affect eligibility.
Be referred by a nominating organisation. This will include consideration of whether the child has access   to a device and the digital skills to use the internet safely.
Live in a premises that can access the NBN network.
