Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome back, students, staff and parents, to Term 2.
It's truly heartwarming to see each of you settling back into the rhythm of school life. As we embark on this next chapter of our academic journey, let's carry with us the enthusiasm and determination to make it a remarkable one. Whether you're returning refreshed and ready to tackle new challenges or joining us for the first time, know that you are an integral part of our school community. Together, let's embrace learning, growth, and opportunities that lie ahead. Let's support one another, celebrate achievements, and strive for excellence in all that we do. Here's to a Term filled with inspiration, discovery, and success.
A very busy few weeks ahead with Dio Cross Country, Christian Living Camp and our school Athletics Carnival, just to name a few. Welcome back, everyone!
It is a wonderful to be back seeing all the happy faces here at Sacred Heart.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for supporting me in my absence last Term. I would like to thank my staff for their support and hardwork. I would also like to thank Mrs Jen Baker for stepping in as Acting Principal in my absence, a role that is challenging at the best of times. I truly cannot say thank you enough to everyone.
God Bless
Kylie Scott
School Refusal- 4 Corners report
An increasing number of Australian children are struggling to get to school.
In 2023, the attendance rate for students in Years 1 to 10 was 88 per cent, down from 92 per cent almost a decade earlier.
Last year, 38 per cent of all students in Years 1 to 10 were absent for more than 20 days a year – which is considered chronically absent.
Respectful Language
In today’s world, it is becoming apparent that some young people are being influenced by the language around them. It is becoming more common for them to hear derogatory terms or offensive language on the streets, on social media channels, streaming services and in some forms of modern music. Proliferating the use of such language can sometimes normalise, glamorise and sanitise their impact, taking their meaning out of context. Words can be misconstrued to be hurtful, racist, homophobic, mysogynistic or even discriminatory. Using disrespectful language is considered socially unacceptable, and if not addressed early, can become a serious problem.
The use of derogatory language or the act of swearing at someone, or about someone, is actually a form of verbal violence. It transgresses the usual rules of social interaction by impinging on an individual’s self-image and sense of dignity. Therefore, many schools enforce a zero tolerance policy when it comes to such language. Parents and carers also need to play an important role in enforcing this approach by proactively monitoring what their children are viewing or being exposed to and discussing the use of words or their origin. This can help prevent inappropriate or disrespectful language being used in the classroom, school yard or other situations.
Whilst some students may use swearing or derogatory terms for attention seeking purposes, others may use it simply because they are still learning how to moderate their language. As young people develop their language skills, it is important for them to have a clear understanding of the impact of their choice of words on others and how their words can impact other people’s perspective of them - an important and essential skill to learn as they progress in their personal and professional development.

Annual School Improvement Survey
The Annual School Improvement Survey (2024) will be sent to all members of the school community on Thursday 2 May. The beginning of Term 2.
The purpose of this survey is to provide all stakeholders in our school community a 'voice' in how our school operates. The survey is straightforward and your responses are collected, collated and used to inform the school where we are operating well and areas where we may need to improve. This is an important tool that all schools in our Diocese participate in each year. Data from it forms and guides our annual improvement plans for the following year. I invite all members of our school community to be active in your participation with this survey.
The survey will be 'live' for two weeks from the initial survey 'open' date. Please take the time to carefully respond and provide valuable feedback about our school.
The Closing date is the 16th of May
A reminder that the school improvement surveys will be distributed to all staff, parents and Yr 5-12 students on Thursday of week one.
Please keep an eye out in your emails.
