Term 4 2024 Weeks 1&2
Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Friends,
Welcome Back to Term 4!
What a fantastic start to the final term of the year! It’s been wonderful to see the enthusiasm and smiles from our students, eager to embrace new learning opportunities. We are so proud of their dedication and achievements, and we look forward to celebrating their successes over the coming weeks. At Sacred Heart, our mission is grounded in the Josephite spirit of compassion, humility, and love, reminding us all to “Never see a need without doing something about it.” Together with our supportive families, we continue to nurture an environment where kindness and respect are at the heart of all we do. This term, we are committed to fostering growth in both learning and character, encouraging our students to be the best version of themselves in faith and action. Thank you for walking with us on this journey — let’s make it a memorable and meaningful Term 4!
God Bless,
Kylie Scott
Religious Happenings
"We recall that the purpose of the Synod is not to produce documents, but to plant dreams, draw forth prophecies and visions, allow hope to flourish, inspire trust, bind up wounds, weave together relationships, awaken a dawn of hope, learn from one another and create a bright resourcefulness that will enlighten minds, warm hearts, give strength to our hands"
"Did you know? The Catholic Church was responsible for founding the world’s first universities, with institutions like the University of Bologna and the Sorbonne dating back to the 11th and 12th centuries."
This fact highlights the Church’s historical role in education!
A few weeks in the life of 3-4.......
Years 3-4: A Week of Learning and Discovery!
In the week of 3-4, our students delved into exciting topics across all learning areas for the Term.
🔢 Mathematics: The focus was on place value—exploring thousands, hundreds, tens, and ones, along with partitioning numbers to build strong number sense.
📖 English: Students deepened their understanding of characterisation, learning how to develop rich, relatable characters in their writing.
🙏 Religion: We reflected on Mary, Mother of Jesus, identifying her qualities and how both Mary and the saints responded to God’s call. Students explored ways they too can embody these values in their daily lives.
🎨 Visual Arts: In a creative exploration of Street Art, students engaged with the conventions of graffiti and street art, gaining insight into its artistic and cultural significance.
🌍 Science and Technology: Our young scientists investigated how Earth’s rotation and revolution around the Sun cause day, night, and the changing seasons. They also analysed how sunlight impacts Earth’s temperature, graphed data, and discussed sustainable practices to reduce human impacts on the environment. The week culminated with students planning and presenting innovative solutions to real-world environmental challenges.
It’s been a vibrant few weeks of learning, full of creativity, inquiry, and reflection!

Year 5/6
Welcome back for Term 4. In English we are started a five-week English unit focused on
exploring the textual concepts of ‘argument and authority’ as well as ‘perspective and context.’
Through the analysis of digital articles, students will examine the different authorial choices that
influence the authority of a text. They will assess texts for reliability, validity, authority, and
perspective, while also planning, revising, and publishing factual news articles. Additionally,
students will use language features to create a fictional news article.
In maths, Year 5 has started learning about angles. Students will use a protractor to measure
and identify different types of angles. They will also estimate, measure, and compare angles in
degrees. Additionally, they will classify two-dimensional shapes and describe their properties.
In Year 6 maths, have been dissecting two-dimensional shapes and rearranging them through
translations, reflections, and rotations. Students will explore the relationships created by the
intersection of straight lines as well as investigate angles on a straight line and angles at a
point.
Last week, Year 5 and 6 students visited the Coolah Preschool. These visits help nurture confidence and excitement for the future, creating a positive foundation as children prepare for the next step in their education. By fostering connections, they create a sense of community that ensures every child feels welcomed as they get ready for the big school world ahead!
SPECIAL REPORT: Eating Anxiety
Eating anxiety encompasses the stress, worry, or fear associated with eating and can appear in various forms, such as a refusal of all foods or an aversion to specific textures or flavours. This is particularly challenging for children and teenagers during school break times or lunchtime. Often this anxiety can be intensified by either social pressures or the surrounding environment.
Did you Know?
Did You Know?
- The word "Catholic" means "universal." The Church embraces people from all cultures and backgrounds across the globe.
- Saints aren't just in heaven—they can inspire us today! Many saints were ordinary people like teachers, doctors, and parents before becoming extraordinary through their faith.
- The Hail Mary is over 1,000 years old. This prayer reminds us to turn to Mary, the Mother of Jesus, for comfort and intercession in our lives.
- Catholics celebrate the “liturgical year.” This cycle of seasons—like Advent, Lent, and Easter—helps us walk with Jesus throughout the year.
- The Vatican is its own country! At just 44 hectares, it’s the smallest independent state in the world, with its own postal system and guards.
We are excited to walk with your children in their faith journey and help them discover more about this rich tradition.
Hail Mary, full of grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.
This beloved prayer invites us to seek Mary’s intercession and reflect on the blessings of faith.
