Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is hard to believe that we are nearing the end of Term 1, with only two weeks remaining. This term has progressed swiftly, and I am truly impressed by how well the children have acclimated to school since the beginning of the year. Their engagement in learning has been commendable.

I would like to commend our Year 3 and Year 5 students for their participation and positive attitudes during the recent NAPLAN assessments. Congratulations on the “I’ve got this!” attitude demonstrated.

On Monday, March 24th, our staff attended the English Block Professional Development session in Dubbo, where we were introduced to effective strategies aimed at enhancing student engagement and learning. Our staff enthusiastically began implementing these new strategies on Tuesday. Professional development is essential for ensuring that we remain informed about curriculum changes, expectations, and best practices.

Congratulations to our students who participated in the Footy Gala Day in Dunedoo on Wednesday, March 26th. I extend my gratitude to all the parents who helped transport their children to the event. I would also like to thank Mrs. Narelle Kitchin and Mrs. Angela James for their support of our students during this occasion.

As a reminder, the School Improvement Surveys (Qualtrics) will be distributed to all staff, parents, and Year 5-6 students on Thursday, May 8th (Week 2, Term 2). These surveys provide an opportunity for all members of the school community to express their opinions. The information gathered will reflect how well the school is operating, highlighting areas of strength and those that may require attention. Overall, the data collected will be invaluable in guiding the school's future planning for continuous improvement.

Please remember that if you have any issues or concerns, I encourage you to come and discuss them with us. Our teachers are always available to meet with you regarding your child’s learning and progress. Such meetings are encouraged and can be arranged for a mutually convenient time. Open communication and proactive partnerships between parents and teachers are vital for collaboratively supporting your child's learning and well-being.

Kind regards,

Sarah-Jane Canham

Lent

WHY WE LENT

Jesus prepared for his Passion by entering a special period of fasting and prayer for 40 days alone in the wilderness.  There he did spiritual battle by enduring temptation and bodily hunger. The Church (his Bride) prepares for the annual remembrance of his Passion, death, and resurrection by fasting for 40 days prior just like he did.

Everything Jesus did during his earthly life teaches us what we should do and how we should act as Christians.  In this time of prayer and self-denial Jesus was teaching us about spiritual discipline, which will help us turn away from sin, purify our souls, and bring us closer to God. This is what will give us the inner strength us to carry our own crosses as we follow him. And it is only through the cross that we can participate in the resurrection and the joy of Easter.

How Do I Explain Lent to Non-Catholics?

Weeks 7 & 8

We pack healthy food and water for the school day.

We show respect to others when we keep our hands and feet to ourselves.

News from Year 1 and 2

From learning about how knowledge is passed down in aboriginal culture as part of our History unit to what it means to be like Jesus during Lent and Holy Week, it has been a very busy term for our year 1 and 2 students. Students learned some Wiradjuri language and made a collaborative artwork which tells of the Rainbow Serpent's journey. They learned a song to remind them about Lent and performed it at assembly. We also had a heap of fun role playing the Palm Sunday story in class. I wonder what we'll get up to next?

From Ms Little.

Dunedoo League Stars Gala Day

Our students had a fantastic time representing Sacred Heart at the Dunedoo League Stars Gala Day!

Teaming up with students from St Michael’s and All Hallows, they showcased great teamwork, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm throughout the day. Our inexperienced players did an amazing job overcoming their nerves and growing in confidence with each game, while our more experienced students had a great day putting their skills to the test.

It was wonderful to see them supporting each other, making new friendships, and giving their all.

A big thank you to the event organisers, our wonderful staff, and the parents who supported the team. Well done to all involved – we are so proud of your efforts!
